Robert A. Cohen, a partner, joined David A. Axelrod & Associates in 2002. Mr. Cohen concentrates his practice in construction, environmental, and commercial litigation. In addition, he focuses on non-litigation regulatory and contractual issues with respect to construction and environmental matters.
Mr. Cohen litigates construction disputes throughout Illinois and in other states. Mr. Cohen largely handles matters including delay damages claims, breach of construction contracts, and mechanic’s lien foreclosures and litigation. He also advises companies outside of the litigation context.
Mr. Cohen has litigated commercial disputes involving fraud, mortgage fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, breach of contracts, real property disputes, close corporation and partnership disputes, manufacturer’s representative commission contests, ERISA, and employee benefit plan litigation and insurance coverage. He led successful efforts to recover $2.5 million stolen from a contractor’s 401(k) plan.
Mr. Cohen has years of experience in Superfund, landfill siting and other environmental litigation, and is an authority on the allocation of liability for environmental contamination. With experience in virtually every federal program and many state programs regulating the environment, Mr. Cohen has published dozens of articles on environmental law topics.
Mr. Cohen is a graduate of the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and received his undergraduate degree with High Honors from the University of California, Berkeley. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, and has also been admitted to numerous federal courts in California, Illinois, North Carolina and other states. |
